Its rectangular body was crisp and crust-like on the outside, but softer towards the center. There were holes all across its entirety, and some were filled with an orange substance, which also overflowed from the sides. The object appeared to be multiple items combined into one by a large amount of heat applied to both sides. It’s coloring was light in some places, darker in others, with shades of brown and orange being the most prominent. It did not move, and it did not think. It was just…
There.
The being took it up in his hands and several very small pieces fell from his hands as he bit through the object. It was soft, and the orange part stretched quite a bit before separating. It was possible that the object was made of at least four parts, two possibly being the same, as both sides of the object appeared to be very similar if not identical to each other. The aliens took it upon themselves to reverse engineer this delicate cuisine. As they were about to leave the house, John Cena walked into the kitchen and saw them standing there with his food.
“MY GRILLED CHEESE!” he yelled.

The table was set with plastic plates, cups, and utensils all in bright fluorescent shades of blue, green, and pink. The food was neatly arranged in the center-piece and the steam wafting towards the open window was letting off a delicious fragrance. Mom’s famous apple pie sat on the windowsill in the kitchen, making our mouths drool. The dinner bell summoned us all to the table with a speed that defied our usual lethargy. Tonight was dumpling night!
The pot was tall and dark – it hid the delicious surprise inside. Bits of pulled chicken were floating in a thin broth of ambrosia. The chicken was plump and moist, both dark and white meat, and each fresh bite brought a burst of flavor. The best part was the dumplings, though. Hand-made with flour and water and just a touch of salt and sugar, the sweet doughy lumps were hidden in the stew and added a texture and flavor of pure bliss. A dash of basil and sage gave a slight twang to the mix while the salt and pepper gave a kick. Nothing could ever beat Mom’s home-made chicken and dumpling delight. Except maybe that apple pie calling from the kitchen.

The one food I love more than any other is the savory wonder of Bob Evans’ home fries. These red potatoes are deftly diced and fried to perfection. The minute you order these vessels of ecstasy, your mouth begins to water. Every second you wait longer is an eternity without those lovely spuds dancing upon your tastebuds. Back in the kitchen you can hear the delectable sizzling of your meal on the grill, and it drives you crazy. Once the home fries reach the table, you start to feel the connection. They are slick with the grease of heaven, but it is just the right amount of “bad for you”. So bad, yet it feels so good, kind of like watching The Real Housewives or Gossip Girl. Each square of potato majesty is gently seared so just the edges possess a wonderful crisp, which gives you great joy. Some of them are crisp throughout. Preparing for this moment, you feel the anticipation travel down your skin in the form of goosebumps as you poke through the delectable red skin with your fork. You raise the silverware and finally indulge yourself, letting the luscious taste sensations surge through your mouth. Wow.

Pizza I love, pizza. Deep dish specifically…growing up a vegetarian my options were limited and nothing was better than a slice of Geno’s East, Uno’s, Lou Malnati’s (As you can see I don’t really care where I get it from). I recall the times that treat “Italy’s bread and butter”, (are you kidding me?!) blessed my plate. I’d cut into the soft gooey layer of cheese and feel the snap of the crust I could see the steam cloud my fork. I attempted to fork away a piece for my mouth, but the piece that I cultivated for myself doesn’t seem to want to part away from the rest of the slice. Like two lovers the cheese held on to my morsel of serenity and stretched, as to say “no don’t go!”, but it could no longer hold on. It was love at first bite! The crust was warm, buttery, thick, and inviting. The cheese oozed out and went into to a long stretch. The crimson colored sauce was savory and full of fresh basil, oregano, and plump juicy tomatoes that burst in my mouth. It becomes a battle to fill myself with more pizza. I am soon defeated. Full nonetheless, but defeated.
