Journals & Shorter Assignments
Every Wednesday students are given a topic and have to write a story on that topic. As long as the topic is covered (and the story is at least 200 words), students have a lot of creative freedom with format and approach. Click on the buttons to see samples.
Journal 12: Conversation between two opposite people.
Journal 8: The topic was to write about an ideal deal - it did not have to be their own.
To practice imagery, students were to choose their favorite food and then describe it, focusing on sensory details. Students had the opportunity to vote, and the winning food was brought in and shared.

Journal 14: Most likely to...
Journal 9: The topic was to write a story about a person with an unusual disease or disorder.
Journal 5: The topic was "What If..." Students were to finish that sentence and then write a story based on their "What If" scenario.

Garbology: Students were given someone else's carefully selected garbage and were to create a character based on that garbage.
Journal 10: The topic was to write through the voice of the person they are doing their Voice Project on.
Journal 7: The topic was to choose a villain and write through the villain's perspective.
